This is the second year of me and my sis trying out wrapping rice dumplings during Dragon Boat Festival. Last year was a knock out so we are confident continuing this year. It was mama who pushed us at first, she's afraid that when we got married we knew nothing about cooking,
lol. I wanted to learn it too cause i don't want to lose this
unforgettable flavor.
It's rather a long process from the beginning to the end, preparation is always the hardest and the most tedious, plus
I'm not very good at seasoning so am afraid will ruin the flavors so let mama to do the job. We first washed the bamboo leaves for wrapping the dumplings. And mama prepared pork, mushrooms, dried onions, salted yolks, chestnuts and peanuts. She first
stirred fried and seasoned the
ingredients with soy sauce and pepper and mixed the rice with peanuts and dried onions, then we were ready to go!
I'm never into rice, plain rice especially, I'm okay with fried rice, sushi, or even porridge, but I don't like plain rice. So mama was clever enough to mix peanuts with rice therefore we get to eat the whole thing
instead of leaving it. I was a bit rusty at the beginning when wrapping the dumplings, the shapes didn't come out well. Mama was scolding at me, told me to watch and learn. And then I got better, the shapes of the rice dumplings came out really well, I'm super proud of myself! But we didn't take a lot of pics this year since it was late at night. But here is a pic of last year's during my first try and you can see here, I didn't wrap it properly!
LOL
